Before & After : Hollywood Regency in the Windy City

This home was beautiful to begin with, but it was a bit out-of-date and didn’t reflect the clients’ style.

We created a vision for a bold Hollywood Regency style that contrasts the architectural details which create a rich neutral backdrop.

See the Before and Afters of this luxury mansion renovation below!

Entry Foyer

Black and white marble tile was a joy to see when we first stepped into this home.

Before

We painted the walls to match the lower part of the paneling. This made the space brighter and feel even larger. Furnishings that are bold and contemporary were added. A modern interpretation of the classic wing chair in an eggplant velvet. We loved the height of a wing chair for this corner in the Entry Foyer, but didn’t want to go traditional. It instantly modernized the space!

Formal Living Room

We loved the design of the fireplace, all the large windows, and dramatic potential of this room.

Before

We painted the fireplace Black Magic by Sherwin Williams to create a high-contrast architectural element in the room. The gold in stone surround sparkles with new life.

After

Before

A game table in the corner makes this room multi-function and great for entertaining!

After

Dining Room

We loved the moody dark walls. They were they were the one thing we kept in this room.

Before

We added new window treatments, shimmery wallcovering on the ceiling, a chandelier of recycled sea-glass, a silk rug, and contemporary furniture.

Kitchen and Dinette

A timeless kitchen like this can easily blend with many styles so we only made a few changes.

Before

A bold geometric stone mosaic tile completely transformed the kitchen and made a huge statement. The new counter stools are more comfortable with an upholstered back and far more contemporary and high-contrast.

After

The dinette area is an extension of the kitchen, but was leaning a bit on the country-chic side.

Before

By painting the beadboard Black Fox by Sherwin Wiliams and swaping out the light fixture and furniture we created a much more contemporary look.

After

Family Room

This room is the main TV room and is octagonal in shape.

Before

A custom sofa made to perfectly fit along the angles of the bay window allowed max seating without awkward unused corners.

Primary Bedroom

This gorgeous room with lots of sunlight needed a contemporary update.

Before

We painted the walls Peppercorn by Sherwin Williams and swapped out the window treatments.

After

A curtain wall effect is created when the drapery is completely closed.

After

Office

What an incredible room for a home office! It was just lacking one thing: functional storage.

Before

We painted the walls Mindful Gray by Sherwin Williams and added builtins in Dorian Gray by Sherwin Williams. A punch of kelly green on swivel chairs, brass light fixtures, and a gray grasscloth by Phillip Jeffries were a few of the key elements.

Conclusion

The bones of this Chicago mansion were incredible, but the interior design was a little out of date and didn’t match the client’s style.

You can see what a huge transformation can be accomplished with no major renovations whatsoever, simply furnishings.
